A 24 Hour Fundraising Event

9:00am Friday August 21st to Saturday August 22nd

Team members, alumni, coaches, family members and friends will run vritually as a team to collectively reach 1,500 miles, in an effort to raise awareness for our cause.

Join us wherever your are: all runners and walkers welcome, or join us in spirit through a donation.

To Whom it May Concern:

Sunset Cross Country has always been about more than just running; we are a community. For the past six years, we have begun our season with Miles that Matter, a 24-hour relay that is both a team fundraiser and a fundraiser for Shriners Hospital for Children in Portland. Over these six years, we have been able to donate $63,500 to SHC.

This year, though we remain hopeful that we will still have a season in February/March, we will not have the regular team expenses. We will have our seventh annual Miles That Matter relay, albeit virtual, and will raise money solely for SHC Portland and its mission to provide the highest quality care to children with special healthcare needs.

The young men and women of Sunset Cross Country and their coaches recognize their blessings while they work to reach their potential as competitive distance runners and be part of a team that inspires hard work and self-confidence. Collectively, we acknowledge that many members of our community fight hard to get the special health care they need so that they can reach their potential and live more fulfilling lives. Recognizing the needs around us, we begin each fall season with a fundraiser that benefits a local charity doing great things for young members of our community.

Our goal is to raise $15,000.

Miles that Matter begins on Friday, August 21st at 9:00 am and finishes on Saturday, August 22nd. Current team members, alumni, coaches, family members, community members, and anyone else willing to show their support will run virtually as a team for 24 hours to collectively reach 1,500 miles, drawing further attention to our cause.

Generous donors like you will be the key to our success and will make it possible for Miles that Matter to support Sunset Cross Country and provide local children and families with the special health care they need from Shriners Hospital for Children. We hope that we can count on your support to help us in our endeavor. Please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions.
