Cross Country summer info

Hi Apollos!

The time for summer training for the upcoming cross country season is upon us. Our summer plans are set and can be found at this link. We have posted the same information to our athletic.net page where potential races are being added to our calendar. (Please note that races on our athletic.net page that are not also posted to our team calendar are tentative.)

Even summer practicing with the team requires official clearance through the athletic office, a process through InTouch described at this link. Payment is not required for summer conditioning*.

We welcome athletes of all abilities and fitness levels. On the subject of fitness, there is the Chinese proverb that says "the best time to plant a tree is 20 years ago, the second best time is today." In other words... get out for a run. Join us at any or all of our conditioning sessions.

Information about our general training plans can be found on our Canvas course. If you need to be added to the course, simply send Coach Neeway an email and he will get you added. Individualized training plans and recommendations are available, too.

We look forward to seeing everyone soon!

On behalf of the Sunset Cross Country team and its coaching staff,

Coach Neeway

*Participation fees have changed. Here is the note from the school district:

Beginning next year, we’re delighted to announce that we’ll be reducing athletic fees for participation in all OSAA-sponsored athletic programs. The reason for this reduction is simple: we want to promote early participation in extracurricular activities in high school, and we don’t want cost to be a barrier.

Summary of changes:

  • All 9th graders who participate in athletics during the 2022-2023 school year will pay a BSD athletic participation fee of $100 for the first time that they’re part of a team, and all other athletic participation for the rest of the year will be at no cost.

  • Athletic participation fees for sophomores, juniors and seniors will be $100 per sport, reduced from the current $225 per sport.

Note: Athletic financial assistance for those in need is still available.

We are excited for this change and hope that it leads to increased participation in important activities outside of the classroom.
