A long post this week. Below, you'll find specific information about our weekly schedule, Spike Night, our first meet, apparel orders, and a volunteer opportunity with Shriners Hospital for Children.
First, the MILES THAT MATTER event was a tremendous success! Thank you once again to Stacey Wainwright (mom to David [sr], Anna [jr], and Stephen [fr] Cummings) and Avi Huelskamp (mom of Lucy [sr] and Tom[fr]). They were instrumental in securing all the breakfast food items as donations from local stores. Thank you to all the parents who spent their overnight hours circling the track. I hope that you have recovered quickly from the lost sleep!
The FUNDRAISING side of Miles that Matter continues. ATHLETES: please work to complete your packets. Reach out to find pledges. Those aren't due for another week so you have more time to work. Use the momentum from the weekend to find more sources. We exceeded our mileage goal. To do the same with our fundraising goal, we'll need a full effort from everyone on the team.
We will hold practice EVERY DAY this week, regardless of air quality. Signed rules acknowledgments and planned absence forms are REQUIRED from athletes before they are allowed to compete. Please read the rules and understand the expectations before agreeing to continue participating with us this season.
SCHEDULE FOR THE WEEK: Practice begins at the pavilion unless otherwise indicated.
Monday: practice at 3:00 pm, lasting until about 5:30
Tuesday: practice at 3:00 pm, ending as early as 4:45 for our novice members and as late as 5:15 for our more veteran members. SPIKE NIGHT at Foot Traffic on Cornell Rd after practice (see note below).
Wednesday: practice at 3:00 pm, practice ending around 5:15, uniforms distributed after practice
Thursday: practice starts at 2:40 for girls, 3:00 for boys with team meetings in the team room, with practice ending around 5:00 for everyone, uniform make-up after practice (not again until September 3).
Friday: Wilsonville Night Meet (see note below)
Saturday: no organized practice for all athletes (many athletes will have a running workout to complete, they are encouraged to get together to complete their workout)
SPIKE NIGHT: Foot Traffic on Cornell Road is hosting a spike night for Sunset XC. Discounts on training shoes and racing shoes, as well as everything else in the store await (15% off!). PLEASE consider taking advantage of this offer. They usually have treats, too. The discount is available to family members, too!
They are open until "after 7:00" just for us tonight. I worry that if you wait until after 7:30, you will miss them. Take advantage of their wealth of knowledge and experience to fit our athletes to SAFE and APPROPRIATE footwear to keep them healthy through the season.
WILSONVILLE NIGHT MEET: Full race schedule available here. This is also where results will be posted following the meet.
Athletes will learn of their racing assignments (age race or novice race) during the week. We are limited to 6 entries in many of the age races which will have even some of our most experience runners in the "Novice" sections.
As always, athletes are expected to ride the bus to and from the meet. The bus will depart at 4:00 pm from the east side of the school. We anticipate a return around 11:15.
APPAREL ORDERS: Apparel orders are due Thursday. Need a copy of the order form? Click here. Looking to pay online? You may do so with the online payment system but AN ORDER FORM MUST STILL BE GIVEN TO COACHES with a printed receipt showing proof of payment by Thursday (email okay).
SHC VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY: Shriners Hospital for Children is seeking help with their Sunday, September 8, fundraiser, the 2019 Walk for Love. Specifically, they are hoping for help with tear down. Here is a link to their sign-up form: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/8050f49a9ae22aaff2-walk. How wonderful it would be if we could offer additional support to this organization!
